Thermoelectrically Cooled Spectrometer
EERBEEK, The Netherlands, April 16 -- Avantes has introduced the AvaSpec-2048TEC, a thermoelectrically cooled spectrometer, to its AvaSpec line of instruments. Designed for customers who need exceptional signal-to-noise performance, the instrument is ideal for low-light level applications such as fluorescence and Raman measurements.

"Noise" is driven primarily by two factors, true system noise and the photo response nonuniformity, or PRNU, of the detector. TE cooling reduces these system noise characteristics by improving true signal-to-noise performance by a factor of 8 and PRNU by as much as 20 times. Now customers with low light applications can use extremely long integration times without concern for additional noise in the measurement system.

AvaSpec-2048TEC is available in single or dual channel units and is based on Avantes’ standard AvaSpec platform, which includes features such as 14-bit A/D, USB and RS232 communication capability, 14 digital I/O channels and simultaneous signal acquisition for dual channel spectrometers. Customers also have other AvaSpec options, such as gratings, slits and order sorting features for true flexibility in system configuration. In addition, TE cooling is capable of 30 °C cooling versus ambient conditions and stabilizes in about 90 seconds.
