The InfraCal variable filter array (VFA) spectrometer unveiled by Wilks Enterprise Inc. is a 5 × 5 × 1.5-in. portable mid-infrared device that enables users to obtain spectra on powders, films, liquids, slurries, semisolids and solid surfaces on the production line or in the field. It has a sample plate with an elongated pulsable source mounted on one end and a linear variable filter attached to a 64-element detector array mounted on the other. It connects to a PC via an RS-232 port. Variable filter ranges are from 2.5 to 5.0 µm and from 5.5 to 11 µm.
