Comsol AB has announced the Femlab MEMS Module with multiphysics capabilities for designing MEMS. Featuring a CAD editor, high-performance solvers and a graphical interface, the add-on to the Femlab package enables users to select from a variety of methods to describe problems in 1-, 2- or 3-D. It includes the PDE modeling capability for linking and solving coupled equations from arbitrary fields, as well as flexible postprocessing and visualization tools. The module provides application modes that are optimized for microscale modeling and separate modes for addressing electrostatics, stresses and strains, piezoelectrics and electrokinetics. It also has predefined physical couplings for microsensors, -actuators and -fluidic systems.
