Suitable for bright-field microscopy, the PL-A686 digital camera features a 1-in. CMOS sensor with 3.5-µm square pixels that provides 2208 × 3000-pixel resolution in color and monochrome. The device, manufactured by PixeLink, has controls for selecting a variable region of interest and delivers 5 fps at full resolution, with frame rates increasing for smaller regions of interest of decimation modes. Five levels of decimation allow the full field of view to be used at lower resolution and higher frame rates. The camera supports off-chip binning and averaging to increase pixel size and to provide high-quality images at lower resolutions.
