JAI Pulnix Inc. has announced a monochrome CCD version of its neural-network-based ZiCam smart camera. The Zi-640PC features an integrated circuit called ZISC (zero instruction set computing) that has a true parallel processing structure that realizes quick learning and computing, resulting in a system that can perform multidimensional nonlinear classifications. Features include a 1/3-in. CMOS imager, a C-mount lens, a user-friendly GUI, optional compact flash memory for images and data, a 10/100 base T Ethernet interface and a local monitor display. Operating from -10 to 45 °C, it offers 60-Hz VGA analog video output and up to 60-fps real-time inspection.
