Coherent Inc. has enhanced its line of Fiber Array Package diode lasers with the introduction of 940- and 980-nm models. The conduction-cooled lasers produce 40 W of CW power through an 800-µm fiber bundle, with a numerical aperture <0.11. Wall-plug efficiency is >50%. The lasers use high-efficiency epitaxy bars that lower the power supply requirements, reducing system cost, size and weight. They also reduce the amount of dissipated heat, minimizing the number and/or power of thermoelectric coolers required. Decreased junction temperature rise increases instrument lifetimes. The diodes are suitable for medical applications and for pumping erbium- and ytterbium-doped fiber lasers.
