UV ANTIREFLECTION COATINGS CVI Laser LLC has developed a durable, long-lifetime antireflection coating for deep-UV wavelengths as part of its continuous process improvement initiatives for ISO 9001:2000. The coating has been independently tested with damage thresholds of up to 2.5 J/cm2 at 193 nm and of more than 6 J/cm2 at 266 nm, and the company has made it the standard AR coating for windows and lenses for applications in the 193- to 213-nm wavelength region. It can be deposited on fused silica, magnesium fluoride, calcium fluoride and crystal quartz, and can be cleaned without damage or peeling.

GLOSSARY
antireflection coating
A thin layer of material applied to a lens surface to reduce the amount of reflected energy. Ideally the index of refraction of that material should be equal to the square root of the product of the indices of the material on either side of the coating, while the ideal thickness for a single-layer coating is one-quarter of the wavelength at which reflectance is to be minimized.
