Point Source Ltd. has added a 405-nm fiber-coupled diode laser to its iFlex2000 series. Suitable for spinning disk confocal microscopy, high-throughput flow cytometry and semiconductor wafer inspection, the laser delivers 30 mW in a pure Gaussian TEM00 collimated beam from a single-mode polarization-maintaining fiber. It offers high stability and reliability and operates with noise <0.1% rms. It includes a detachable plug-and-play fiber for easy installation, upgrade and field replacement. The laser also can be used for applications such as DVD/CD mastering and optical inspection.
- flow cytometry
- A method of measuring the characteristics of microscopic particles, usually cells, as they flow in a fluid stream through a beam of light. Particles may be stained with fluorescent dye and the fluorescence detected via laser illumination.
