The Laser Div. of Trumpf Inc. has introduced a continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser for cutting thick metal. The HL 1003D delivers up to 1000 W for the life of the flashlamps and can be coupled with a 300-µm-diameter optical fiber for maximum power density. It has a small focus spot that provides a very narrow kerf while maintaining high speeds. Also available is an autofocus cutting head that adapts to changes in 3-D parts in real time.
