APD BIAS CONTROLLER

The ADL5317 produced by Analog Devices Inc. combines avalanche photodiode bias control and current monitoring on a single chip for optical transceiver modules where space is limited. The device, which sets the bias voltage from 6 to 72 V and monitors current over six decades, shuts down when temperature and current levels become excessive. Its 3-V linear bias control interface enables the use of a fixed high-voltage switcher, reducing low-pass filtering and associated noise. It is suitable for use in 10-Gb/s optical networks.
