The ChemID miniaturized FTIR spectrometer analysis system offered by Smiths Detection enables scientists and engineers to instantly assess chemical progress, optimize chemical reactions, and identify and recognize polymorphs. Measuring 7 × 14 × 12 in. and weighing 22 lb, it has a diamond attenuated total reflection sampling interface that requires no sample preparation. An integrated 90× video microscope facilitates spectral and visual characterization of solid forms. ChemAssist software operates on Windows XP to control the instrument and analyze data, and contains a proprietary database of molecular functional groups and their characteristic IR absorption frequencies. Algorithms use it, along with molecular structures entered by the user, to create an optimized set of IR absorption bands that can measure chemical changes.
