Sofradir has introduced Venus, a compact, cooled, 1/4-in. TV format (384 × 288 pixels) long-wave IR detector for armored transportation, airborne vehicles and industrial control applications. Specifications include a 25-µm pitch and a 330-Hz maximum frame rate, and the detector consumes minimal power. Advances in the company's mercury-cadmium-telluride material process have improved pixel uniformity, resulting in better detection and a greater identification range. Built on the industry-standard 320 × 256 chip, the instrument offers higher resolution in a compact footprint.
