A 488-nm solid-state laser that produces 40 mW of single-mode power has been added to Picarro Inc.'s cyan laser line. Based on a proprietary doubled external cavity semiconductor laser design, the new model is housed in the same compact and thermally efficient package as the 10- and 20-mW versions. The company says that it delivers low noise, good beam pointing stability, high wavelength stability and tolerance, and long life. The laser head has the same output beam characteristics and is mechanically identical to the 20-mW version, facilitating upgrade.
