Ocean Optics Inc. has collaborated with Boston Advanced Technologies Inc. to offer the Raman Systems R-2000 for applications such as reaction monitoring, product identification and remote sensing. This low-cost Raman spectroscopy system comprises a 500-mW solid-state laser to excite the sample, an SMA-terminated fiber optic probe to collect the backscattering from the sample, and a 2048-element miniature CCD-array spectrometer to detect and analyze the signal. The spectrometer is set to a 785- to 1000-nm spectral range. An ISA-bus A/D card is included to interface the spectrometer to a desktop or notebook PC. Windows-based software acquires and displays spectral data in real time.
