The 10APH79T-1CVAF variable attenuator/beamsplitter manufactured by Standa Ltd. for femtosecond laser pulses comprises two Brewster-type polarizing optical components placed in an optomechanical holder to reflect s-polarized and transmit p-polarized light. The device divides the laser beam into two parallel beams. A quartz phase λ/2 plate is placed in the incident polarized beam and, as it rotates, the intensity ratio of the two beams is continuously varied, without altering other parameters. The intensity ratio of one exit beam to the other can be controlled over a wide dynamic range.

An optical device for dividing a beam into two or more separate beams. A simple beamsplitter may be a very thin sheet of glass inserted in the beam at an angle to divert a portion of the beam in a different direction.
