POLARIZATION CONTROL

Photonics Spectra
Oct 2005
Phoenix Photonics Ltd.Request Info

POLARIZATION CONTROL Phoenix Photonics has launched polarization controllers that offer cost-effective manual or external electronic control of the state of polarization. Each of three waveplate sections provides a full cycle of the Poincaré sphere, and each is independently varied by a control knob or an analog 0 to 10-V input voltage. The single-channel model has fixing holes for mounting onto an optical bench. The eight-channel version is available in a 19-in. rack format, and control can be switched between manual front-panel and external analog voltage input.

GLOSSARY
polarization
With respect to light radiation, the restriction of the vibrations of the magnetic or electric field vector to a single plane. In a beam of electromagnetic radiation, the polarization direction is the direction of the electric field vector (with no distinction between positive and negative as the field oscillates back and forth). The polarization vector is always in the plane at right angles to the beam direction. Near some given stationary point in space the polarization direction in the beam...
