The Digital Image Processing 2 software for use with Mathematica computational programs provides more than 60 new functions, options and modules for desktop image processing. Released by Wolfram Research Inc., the upgrade features more than 200 functions for processing color and gray-scale images or other two-dimensional signals, improving capabilities such as spectral analysis, the watershed transform, color space transformations, connected component analysis, iterative and noniterative image restoration, and smoothing, noise reduction and image morphology operations. Designed for students and professionals, the software requires Mathematica 5.0 or higher.

digital image processing
The technique by which an analog image is converted by any of several means into a finite array of points, each represented by some numerical value. Once created, this array can be the basis of a variety of processing and/or manipulation functions, including statistical analysis, enhancement, mensuration, display or hard copy output.
