DIODE LASER BAR The Spectra-Physics Div. of Newport Corp. has released the ProLite 40-W fiber-coupled diode laser bar that produces 40 W of continuous-wave power from an 800-µm fiber bundle at 808 and 940 nm. Built using the proprietary ProLite 50-W passively cooled bar mounted on a heat sink and housed inside a watertight package, the device is suitable for solid-state pumping applications in industrial, aerospace, defense, medical and research applications. The company says that its bundle manufacturing, lensing and fiber alignment processes result in high power conversion efficiency and high brightness for reduced thermal loads and long lifetime.
