Osram Opto Semiconductors Inc. has added an infrared LED in a surface-mount technology package to its Golden Dragon family. Optimized for CCD and CMOS camera applications, it is suitable for automotive night-vision systems and for security system illumination. Based on proprietary thin-film chip technology, the 850-nm diode emits light from the top surface of the die with a built-in reflector to provide very bright output. The company says that this technology results in increased optical output, better optical coupling, lower forward voltages and improved thermal performance.
