Increases Flexibility, Decreases Development Time
LINCOLN, Mass., Sept. 6, 2006 -- Performance Motion Devices (PMD), a provider of motion control technology, announces the new Ion Developer’s Kit, an easy-to-use digital drive and software package that makes setting up and testing motion systems quick and accurate. The Ion Digital Drive is a fully enclosed module that provides high performance motion control, network connectivity, and amplification in a compact package for DC brush, brushless DC, or step motors.

The Ion Developer's Kit consists of an Ion Digital Drive, communication and I/O cables, easy-to-use Pro-Motion development software, and documentation. There is also an optional heat sink and DIN rail adapter available. Designers only need to connect a motor and DC power supply to implement a complete motion system.

IonDevelopersKit.jpgThe all-digital Ion drive module provides serial and multiple CAN interface communications and features user selectable profiling modes including S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring and electronic gearing. Ion’s small, powerful package has a 500 W capability and performs at 8 A rms continuous, 15 A rms peak current. Ion uses high-efficiency MOSFETs, and offers 102 µsec servo loop rate and field-oriented control.

Ion installation is easy with PMD’s advanced Pro-Motion software, the company said. Pro-Motion’s graphical environment allows for configuration, auto current loop and position tuning, and analysis. Other features of the program include status and event monitoring, a programmable motion shuttle, and a complete motion oscilloscope. In addition to Pro-Motion, PMD’s C-Motion and VB-Motion allow designers to develop applications using C/C++ and Visual Basic.

President and CEO Chuck Lewin said, "Great products are only great if they are easy to use. That means they must have clear, concise, and useable software included with them, along with whatever setup hardware is required to get up and running. Developer's kits such as the one PMD offers for Ion are a great example of how you can make an OEM product easy and convenient to use."

The complete Ion Digital Drive Developer’s Kit is available in DC servo, brushless DC and microstepping versions for $495. For more information, visit: www.motion-control.pmdcorp.com;  e-mail: [email protected]
