TT electronics OPTEK.jpgOptek Technology Inc., a subsidiary of TT electronics, has developed a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) that uses lower drive currents to achieve the same power output as conventional infrared LEDs. The OPV330 series devices operate at 850 nm with a maximum forward peak current of 20 mA and a maximum reverse voltage of 5 V, over a temperature range of –40 to 85 °C. The company says that the devices’ high thermal stability makes them suitable for low-power-consumption applications such as battery-operated equipment. Other applications include noncontact position sensing, photoelectric sensors, optical encoders and light curtains.
