CARLSBAD, Calif., Nov. 13, 2006 -- Sunex Inc. announces the launch of a new wide-angle lens designed for security and automotive applications. The DSL228 features a compact design, wide field of view and predictable distortion characteristics suitable for dewarping.

Sunexlenses.jpgThe DSL228 is optimized for 1/4-in. format CMOS sensors with multimegapixel resolution. The horizontal field of view is 75° on a 1/4-in. sensor. The relative aperture of f/2.0 provides good low-light performance, according to the company.

The DSL228 is designed to meet the stringent size and environmental demands of automotive and security applications, Sunex said. To withstand a wide range of temperatures, the lens construction is aluminum with glass elements.

The DSL228 also features a small form factor of 14 mm maximum diameter and less than 20 mm total track. An infrared (IR) cut-off coating is integrated into the lens design. Lenses without the IR cut-off coating, suitable for near-IR cameras, are also available. Samples of standard lenses can be purchased on the company's Web site:
