BERLIN, Feb. 7, 2007 -- Lumics GmbH, a manufacturer of laser diode and fiber laser assemblies, announced the release of the LU1064K1001 pulsed seeder laser unit with an optical output of 1 W peak power from single-mode fiber. The LU1064K1001 is a pulsed laser diode module which incorporates temperature and bias control electronics, as well as a matched pulse driver amplifier in a rugged industry-type housing with integrated heatsink. Target applications include seeder sources for ytterbium pulsed fiber laser in MOPA configuration.

The device generates optical pulses with a pulse width selectable between 10 ns and 250 ns, and a repetition rate selectable from single shot up to 500 kHz. It is designed to operate as an analog electrical-to-optical converter, thus allowing pulse shaping within the module´s bandwidth of approximately 100 MHz.

The laser module is available in 1032 nm, 1055 nm, 1064 nm, 1070 nm and 1080 nm versions. The optical output features a very high beam quality of M2 ~ 1.1. The fiber is specified at a standard length of 1 m terminated with FC/PC connector.

Fiber lasers offer many advantages over conventional laser technology. The high beam quality is delivered in a flexible fiber, the limited number of components guarantee a maintenance-free operation and high reliability. The compact size of the LU1064K1001 device allows an easy integration into existing equipment, the company said.

The LU1064K1001 laser is specified with output power of 0.5 to 1 W. Dimensions in mm are 90 x 120 x 14 (L x W x H). The high performance of the device is based on Lumics proprietary chip technology which ensures high reliability and high power based on a breakthrough in diode laser chip facet passivation.
