HERTFORDSHIRE, England, March 30, 2007 -- Optoelectronics manufacturer Photonic Products Ltd., an authorized distributor, said it is offering the Opnext HL6750MG 685 nm laser diode for use in medical and biomedical applications such as x-ray scanners, industrial and medical sensor light sources and as a light source for various other types of optical equipment such as distance meters, barcode scanners and high resolution CTP.

OpnextHL6750MG.jpgThe HL6750MG is made by Opnext (formerly the fiber optic components business of Hitachi) of Eatontown, N.J. The visible laser diode is a 685 nm AlGaInP laser diode with a multiquantum well structure. It has a high optical output power of 50 mW CW, a small package size of 5.6 mm and a built-in photodiode for monitoring laser output which allows for easier control of the auto power circuit.

An added benefit is the low operating current of 75 mA which enables the power consumption to be lowered without sacrificing the high 50 mW optical output power, resulting in greater energy efficiency, extended battery lifetime and significant cost savings for OEMs. This has been achieved by optimizing both the multiquantum well structure and waveguide structure of the laser diode.

Supplied in a 5.6 mm package, the Opnext HL6750MG is a single longitudinal mode laser diode with a high optical output power of 50 mW CW at a visible wavelength of 685 nm, low typical operating current of 75 mA, low operating voltage of 2.3 V, a low threshold current of 30 mA, monitoring output current of 0.15 mA and an operating temperature range of -10 °C to +70 °C. It requires a negative (N type) power supply system.
