Discovery Semiconductors introduces an optical 10 Gb/s transmitter for the generation of on/off keyed (OOK) and differential phase-shift keyed (DPSK) signals. The fully standalone device includes a tunable laser, a pulse-pattern generator and optical Mach-Zehnder modulators with corresponding driver amplifiers.

The transmitter allows users to choose between four formats: NRZ-OOK, RZ-OOK, NRZ-DPSK and RZ-DPSK. The turnkey system includes control circuitry to allow testing of these formats in the laboratory or in the field. Data rates up to 12.5 Gb/s are supported. The transmitter, which features a wavelength range between 1528 and 1567 nm,  complements Discovery Semiconductors’ Kitty Hawk coherent receiver, which can detect 10 Gb/s OOK and DPSK.
