SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 22, 2007 -- Coherent Inc. said its new multipurpose EnergyMax series of laser energy sensors are the first commercially available products to combine large active-area, high repetition-rate response and high peak-power handling capability.

These sensors feature extremely wide wavelength coverage (190 nm to 12 µm), and can measure pulse energies from 300 nJ to 2 J of lasers operating from single shot to 1 kHz. This broad utility will make these sensors cost-effective for use in multilaser laboratories and production facilities, the company said.EnergyMax.jpg

In addition, all EnergyMax sensors offer improved user convenience through onboard electronics that can automatically correct for ambient temperature, as well as built-in wavelength compensation factors.

Six individual models of EnergyMax sensors are available to enable measurement over a wide range of beam diameters and average power levels. Coherent said. Specifically, low energy range sensors for 300 nJ to 500 mJ pulses are available in 10-mm, 25-mm and 50-mm diameters, and high energy sensors that cover from 10 µJ to 2 J are offered in those same sizes.

In addition, the 25-mm and 50-mm diameter sensors accept an optional heat sink, which can be easily attached by the user to further extend energy and/or repetition rate range. Multipurpose EnergyMax sensors are compatible with Coherent 3sigma, FieldMaxII-TOP, FieldMaxII-P, EPM1000 and EPM2000 meters, Coherent said.
