SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 31, 2007 -- Coherent Inc. said its new Avia 355-23 delivers over 23 W of Q-switched output at 355 nm, making it the most powerful all-solid-state ultraviolet laser currently available.

Based on the Avia platform, this laser sets a new price/performance benchmark, the company said, delivering 15 percent more power than previous models and supporting higher pulse repetition rates. For end users, this improved performance means faster processing times and a lower cost per part.

CoherentAVIA355-23.jpgThe Avia 355-23 features short pulse duration, excellent beam quality and high pulse-to-pulse energy stability -- all factors that contribute to superior precision and uniformity in materials processing applications, Coherent said.

This new laser, which comes with a two-year warranty, also supports repetition rates of up to 300 kHz, making it compatible with high-speed systems, such as those using raster scanning. The laser’s frequency-tripling component now has a projected lifetime of providing stable output power for more than 22,000 hours.

The Avia 355-23 is the ideal tool for high-throughput micromachining applications, such as dicing and scribing silicon and low-K semiconductors, as well as via-hole drilling in printed circuit boards and flip chips, Coherent said. Other applications include solar cell micromachining, chip singulation and direct patterning of thin films.

The Avia 355-23 is RoHS-compliant, as required in Europe and Asia.
