Optical Research Associates has released version 6.0 of its LightTools illumination design and analysis software. It includes a user-defined optical properties feature that provides flexibility in creating specialty optical components and that enables modeling of application-specific proprietary elements, such as specialty polarization and grating components, scattering surfaces and coating definitions. Elements can be immersed in one another in multiple levels for modeling the embedded phosphor and epoxy covering in an encapsulated LED. The optimization module now can find the best distribution, such as uniform or Gaussian, for a given illumination, while maximizing optical power. The new software version evaluates how sensitive a system is to variations in specificparameters. Features include virtual prototyping, simulation and photorealistic renderings of precision illumination applications.
