Phillips-Lumileds.gifA thin-film flip chip (TFFC) technology process introduced by Philips Lumileds Lighting Co. involves removal of the sapphire substrate and roughening of the chip’s light-emitting surface to improve light output efficiency and to minimize thermal resistance. The technology is implemented in the proprietary Luxeon Rebel and Flash family products, and the company says that it delivers 17% more light output than other versions. The company also says that white Luxeon LEDs with TFFC produce more than 80 lm/W at 350 mA. Applications include general and automotive lighting, display and projection.
