OFS Specialty Photonics Div. has introduced a 62.5-μm-core optical fiber with a hard-clad silica fiber coating. The fiber/cable/connector system is suitable for high-bandwidth communication in industrial environments, and the cable design is well-suited for installation environments with high pull forces. The fiber is available cabled and preterminated from the factory, or it can be field-terminated with straight tip and SMA connectors via a proprietary crimp and cleave process. Features include a 125 °C temperature rating, a bandwidth of >200 MHz•km at 850 nm and good moisture resistance. The connectors can be installed directly onto the 230-μm coating, which remains on the fiber to provide a protective barrier for long life.
