Gooch & HousegoRequest Info

Q_Switch.jpgGooch & Housego has combined the corrosion resistance of stainless steel with the power handling capability of aluminum in a patent-pending manufacturing technique dubbed Stallion. The first product based on the technology is a standard Q-switch for use in high-power pulsed laser systems. The company says that the Q-switch, which can be cooled with ordinary water, can extend the lifetime of laser products, reduce production downtime and decrease engineering costs.

GLOSSARY
Q-switch
A device used to rapidly change the Q of an optical resonator. It is used in the optical resonator of a laser to prevent lasing action until a high level of inversion (optical gain and energy storage) is achieved in the lasing medium. When the switch rapidly increases the Q of the cavity, a giant pulse is generated.
