Announced by OptiSwitch Technology Corp., the PLDD-2500 is a pulsed laser diode driver with a peak current of 1000 A, pulse width between 1 and 50 μs, rise and fall times of <200 ns, output from 0 to 1 kA and repetition rates of >10 Hz. Convenient front panel controls adjust the pulse width and peak current. The fast current rise time is realized via a patent-pending circuit and a low-inductance/resistance strip line connection to the laser diode load. The device is externally triggered via an electrical or optical active high signal. With a compliance voltage of 80 V, it is suitable for driving stacks of laser diodes. Optional configurations include peak currents of >5000 A and/or higher repetition rates.
