Factory automation often involves the coordinated control of linear and stepper motors distributed at various points on the production line. Technosoft SA has introduced an intelligent, fully digital servo drive called the IBL2401, which includes a motion controller and drive, plus programmable logic controller (PLC) functionality in a compact unit. It is useful for the pick-and-place function and for handling operations in the automotive, packaging, printing and textile industries.
The device controls the torque, speed or position of motors with powers up to 25 W and with voltages up to 24 V. Its size allows the engineer to position the drive close to the motor, reducing cabling and maintenance. A high-level graphical development environment, EasyMotion Studio, programs the motion controller and allows the developer to test the motion sequences. The embedded motion controller uses the same high-level motion language for all motor versions, simplifying the programming and development procedure and allowing the user to see immediately the various technologies of the motors. It is suitable for use with brushless motors with sinusoidal or trapezoidal commutation, with direct-current brush motors, and also with linear and stepper motors. Its control modes include electronic gearing, contouring and profiling, and control of external variables such as pressure, flow and temperature.
The controller measures 58 × 44 × 16 mm and weighs 60 g. It has an RS-232 serial interface and the option of CAN-Bus 2.0B, producing up to 1-Mb/s communications through a controller area network (CAN), which enables the user to program the controller remotely from a PC or from a programmable logic controller (PLC).
