Beam Expanders Have Compact Design

Edmund-Optics_BeamX.jpgThe compact design of the TechSpec BeamX laser beam expanders manufactured by Edmund Optics Inc. makes them suitable for integration into a variety of new or existing optical systems. The expanders provide diffraction-limited performance over the wave input beam diameter to eliminate the need for critical alignment. With optics fabricated from fused silica, they are available in 532-, 633- and 1064-nm wavelengths, with broadband options also offered.

They feature λ/10 transmitted wavefront. Magnifications of 3×, 5× and 10× support Nd:YAG lasers and a variety of other common laser sources. The system provides focusing with no internal rotation of optics, and the focus adjustment facilitates divergence correction and collimation.

Maximum input aperture is 11 mm, and optimum energy throughput beyond the wavefront-optimized input beam diameter can be achieved. The expanders are compatible with the company’s TechSpec F-Theta scanning lenses, and the C- and T-mount threads are compatible with its line of threaded mounting components. Mounting also can be accomplished via clamps that are sold separately.

The expanders have a high damage threshold, with up to 5 J/cm2 for an 8-ns pulse at 532 nm and in both the near-IR and the visible, and up to 15 J/cm2 for a 10-ns pulse at 1064 nm.
