The battery-operated Comet 1K laser power meter introduced by Rofin-Baasel UK Ltd. can be set to automatic mode for hands-free operation. As soon as the laser is switched on, the probe measures the heat rise from a 10-s exposure to a laser beam and calculates the laser power with ±5% accuracy by comparing the first and final temperatures. A sophisticated algorithm takes into account the initial temperature of the meter to ensure accuracy of measurement, even if the meter is already hot, and it enables several sequential readings before the device must be water-cooled. Spectral range is from 0.2 to 20 μm, and power measurement range is from 20 to 1000 W. The display is a 2 × 8-character LCD with a character height of 5 mm. Internal memory stores the last three readings.
