LEDs Become More Colourful

Avago.jpgAvago Technologies Ltd. has added four colours to its ASMT-QxBE series surface-mount LEDs. Designed for automotive and signage applications, the light sources have wide-angle output and can withstand harsh environmental conditions. They can be used for backlighting car dashboards and for indicator lighting, and they provide exterior and interior illumination for registration plates, and map and dome lamps. Their colours and power make them suitable for decorative and channel lighting, for home appliance indicators and for industrial displays.

Now available in cool or warm white, blue and green, the LEDs have a viewing angle of 120°. Power consumption is 0.5 W, and typical output is 9.8 to 17 lm, with a drive current of 150 mA. The PLCC-4 package measures 3.2 × 2.8 × 1.9 mm. The LEDs dissipate heat efficiently to provide good thermal management and consistent light output. The small size of the light source allows designers great flexibility of layout. Existing colours in the family are white, amber, red-orange and red.

Soldered in place via conventional surface-mount processes, the LEDs can withstand storage in the open air for several weeks after removal from the sealed package. They have a long operational lifetime. For automated assembly, they are supplied on 8-mm carrier tape and 7-in.-diameter reels. Their junction temperature is 125 °C, and they are lead-free and RoHS-compliant.
