TaylorHobson.jpgThe Form Talysurf PGI 2540 from Taylor Hobson Ltd. is a high-resolution aspherics measurement system designed to measure form up to 25 mm of vertical range at a resolution of 0.4 nm. For surface finish measurements, the instrument, which has a 12.5-mm range, delivers a resolution of 0.2 nm and is particularly suited for applications in the optics industry.

The instrument is isolated from vibrations propagated through the floor and from those originating at sources inside and outside a building via an active antivibration mount and a high-quality environmental enclosure. To maximize component accessibility, the environmental cover is fitted with double folding doors. The system is designed for ease of use. A swinging arm support enables the user to position the computer keyboard and monitor close to the work area while setting up the measurements.

The company’s Ultra software with learn-mode capability allows for instrument control and analysis. The major axes are programmable, and a motorized stylus lift mechanism is provided as standard, allowing components to be loaded and measured with minimal disturbance. In addition to surface finish analysis, the system offers base radius optimization, SAG table generation, and astigmatism and derived coefficient analysis. Options include diffractive analysis software for the measurement of aspherodiffractive components.
