SpectraPhysics.jpgNewport Corp.’s Spectra-Physics Lasers Div. has expanded its Excelsior family of diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers with the introduction of the Excelsior-594. The multilongitudinal-mode laser outputs 30 mW at 594 nm and is suitable for use in flow cytometry and in microscopy and DNA sequencing applications that involve exciting fluorescent dyes such as Texas Red. Using patented frequency-doubling techniques, the laser provides visible light with high conversion efficiency for lower power consumption and better reliability. It offers a spectral linewidth of <1 nm and beam quality of M2 <1.5. The collimated beam diameter is 0.67 ±0.07 mm, beam divergence is <1.2 mrad, ellipticity is 1 ±0.2, and pointing stability is <10 μrad/°C.
