Melexis Microelectronic Integrated Systems has introduced the MLX75303 optical switch SensorEyeC for use in high-volume automotive, industrial and consumer applications. The name refers to “sensor eye” and to “sensor IC” (integrated circuit). The photodiode, the transimpedance amplifier and the Schmitt trigger voltage output stage are housed in the small DFN 3 × 3 or SO8 package, ensuring stable light responsivity over time and temperature and improving noise behavior. The device can be used for day/night detection and in contactless switching applications with near-infrared light. Designed for dirt tolerance, it maintains its speed, even after exposure to light 1000 times greater than its switching level. The RoHS-compliant lead-free device operates from –40 to 85 °C or from –40 to 125 °C, depending upon the model.
