TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 29, 2008 – The FizCam 2000 high performance Fizeau interferometer has been introduced by 4D Technology Corp. to provide accurate measurement of large diameter flat optics.

The interferometer features a 12-in. aperture and uses dynamic interferometry to acquire all measurement data in less than 1 ms. It is insensitive to vibration and air turbulence, making it suitable for use in difficult environments without additional isolation.

4D-Technology-FizCam-2000.jpgThe on-axis design eliminates inherent aberrations, software corrections and alignments typical with tilted beam Fizeau systems, according to the company. Difficult measurements of thin, plane and parallel glass is possible with its proprietary laser source. It can also measure “remote cavities,” where both the test and reference surfaces are physically separated from the device.

The turnkey instrument includes an interferometer, 4Sight analysis software and a complete high-speed computer system. It offers true 4X motorized optical zoom imaging and remote control focus and zoom. An optional 12-in. tip/tilt mount is also available.

Fizeau interferometer
A type of interferometer noted for producing narrow multiple-beam interference fringes. As a result, when compared with the Twyman-Green, the Fizeau interferometer has fewer optical components, does not have the large beamsplitter and can be adjusted to a greater accuracy.
