Andor Technology plc has implemented the “cropped sensor” mode as a standard user-selectable feature on its iXon+, Newton and iKon CCD and electron-multiplying CCD cameras. In this mode, the cameras read out images or spectra at typical continuous frame rates of submillisecond exposures. Using software, the operator defines a subarray within the full sensor area so that it encompasses the region of the image where light is falling and change is occurring.
