SAN DIEGO, Jan. 20, 2009 – The Fastcam SA5 high-speed camera from Photron Inc. offers users 7500 frames per second (fps) at 1024 × 1000-pixel resolution.

Photron-FastCam.jpgBased on proprietary high-speed video technology, the camera features a 12-bit monochrome sensor with 20-micron-square pixels. It has 1-µs global shuttering and is available in three memory configurations: 8 GB at up to 0.75-s record time at 7500 fps and full resolution; 16 GB at up to 1.49 s at 7500 fps and full resolution; and 32 GB at up to 2.98 s at 7500 fps, 1 K × 1 K.

For computer-free operation, a remote-controlled keypad with an RS422 connection is included with the built-in 5-in. LCD screen. The company’s Fastcam Viewer freeware and software developer’s kit are offered so users can integrate camera control, replay and download to existing software.

Applications include particle image velocimetry, inkjet, combustion, fluid dynamics, cavitation, materials research and aerospace.
