BERLIN, Germany, Feb. 20, 2009 – Lumics GmbH is expanding its family of 10-W 808- and 980-nm medical laser modules with the introduction of 30- and 40-W modules at 808, 940 and 980 nm. They are suitable for OEM applications in dentistry, dermatology and veterinary medicine.LumicsMedicalLaser.jpg

These higher power lasers are fully equipped with a thermistor, a red pilot beam, an output fiber detector and monitor diodes. The form factor is very small to fit into even portable units, and it is hermetically sealed. Both lasers have the same footprint.

Based on single-emitter technology, which does not show slow degradation over time, the modules have long lifetimes. The fiber output can be selected between 200 and 400 µm, with a connector of the customer’s choice.

A solid-state semiconducting structure (basically one of the bolometers) that changes electrical resistance with temperature. Materially, some kind of ceramic composition is used. A thermistor has much higher electrical resistance than metallic bolometers and hence requires much higher voltages to become useful.
