FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 27, 2009 – BaySpec Inc. has introduced a 785-nm fiber laser for use in biomedical applications. The compact laser produces up to 500-mW maximum power. The side mode suppression ratio is 40 dB, and typical spectral resolution is 0.3 nm full width half maximum.

Bayspec_FiberLaser.jpgThe laser is available in tabletop or card mount versions for easy integration into OEM instruments. It also is available in a 1064-nm illumination model and can be used with other instruments requiring 1064-nm high-intensity light.

fiber laser
A laser in which the lasing medium is an optical fiber doped with low levels of rare-earth halides to make it capable of amplifying light. Output is tunable over a broad range and can be broadband. Laser diodes can be used for pumping because of the fiber laser's low threshold power, eliminating the need for cooling.
