Coherent Inc. has introduced a fiber-delivered direct diode laser system for use in industrial applications. Based on closed-loop cooling, the HighLight 1000F produces 1 kW at 975 nm from a 600-μm core fiber that has a numerical aperture of 0.22. Fiber coupling allows the kilowatt power to be delivered directly to the workpiece, either 180° around a part or at angles. The device is based on proprietary microchannel-cooled diode laser bar technology that provides >20,000 h of operation. It offers up to 30 percent electrical-to-optical efficiency.
