Interrogation Analyzer
FREMONT, Calif., April 9, 2009 – BaySpec Inc. has introduced the WaveCapture fiber Bragg grating (FBG) interrogation analyzer with an integrated reference source. It is an integrated spectral engine simultaneously covering multiple wavelengths for precise and rapid fiber Bragg grating sensor system measurements.

It delivers a response time of up to approximately 5 kHz, while maintaining ±15-pm absolute wavelength accuracy. The device monitors FBG sensors and is suitable for deployment in smart structures, oil/gas down hole drilling, buildings, bridges, mining safety, electrical grid, perimeter sensing, aerospace and other harsh environments.

Bayspec_WaveCapture.jpgIt can be made for the O-, S-, C- or L-band wavelength ranges and provides simultaneous measurements at good wavelength resolution. It complies with the Telcordia MIL STD 810F shock and vibration standard and has a rugged mechanical design with no moving parts. Periodic calibration is not required. Input/output is provided via a dual-port RAM interface accessed through ADD/DAT bus direct connection or serial RS-232 or USB communications as the spectral dispersion element and an ultrasensitive InGaAs array detector as the detection element. The instrument delivers high-speed parallel processing and continuous spectrum measurements. As an input, it uses a tapped signal from the main data transmission link through a single-mode fiber, collimating the signal via a microlens.

The signal is spectrally dispersed, and the diffracted field is focused onto an InGaAs array detector. The control electronics read out the processed digital signal to extract required information. Both the raw data and the processed data are available to the host.
