The CellSurgeon nanodissection system from Rowiak GmbH can stimulate, deactivate, manipulate and ablate cell components. It can dissect entire cells, can create transient pores for transfection and can function as a multiphoton microscope. It uses a near-IR femtosecond laser with a repetition rate between kilohertz and 90 MHz, depending on the configuration, and it can achieve intensities up to terawatts per square centimeter and of reaching precisions of ~100 nm. Accompanying software enables selection of dissection geometries and scan modes; intensity measurement, laser parameters and image processing also are incorporated. The system is compatible with various microscopes and imaging procedures.
