Optical coatings on plastics
SANTA ROSA, Calif., June 26, 2009 – Deposition Sciences Inc. has introduced optical coatings on plastic materials and substrates. The rugged and reliable thin-film coatings can be deposited on materials such as Ultem, Zeonex and a variety of polycarbonate plastics. They operate from the visible through the infrared spectral wavelengths.

DSI_OpticalCoatingsonPlasti.jpgThin-film plastic coatings are suitable for use in diverse applications where lightweight and low-cost optics are specified, such as LED lighting and medical devices. Other applications include unmanned aerial vehicle optics and photovoltaic solar systems.

The durable optical thin-film coatings include bandpass filters, dichroic coatings, high reflectors and various metal coatings. The proprietary MicroDyn sputtering deposition technology yields high-performance coatings on plastics, metals, and other thin-film materials, and enables high-quality multilayer thin-film coatings for optics, MEMS and other thin-film nanotechnologies. This patented uniform coating will pass the stringent environmental tests of 24-h humidity, adhesion and moderate abrasion.
