Designed for use in the laboratory or the field, the VIR-9000 series portable Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers from Jasco Inc. feature collimated entrance and exit ports to support a wide variety of applications. The standard device incorporates a high-intensity source, KRS-5 windows, automatic alignment, a hermetically sealed interferometer and a deuterated L-alanine triglycine sulfate detector. Several configurations are available, including the VIR-9500, which provides a maximum resolution of 0.5 cm–1 for solids and gases. Options include battery operation and HgCdTe, InSb and InGaAs detectors for higher sensitivity. Dedicated accessories allow users to create an IR microscopy system or a gas, powder or fiber-coupled measurement system. The optional multipurpose sample chamber enables connection to standard FTIR accessories. The series incorporates the SpectraManager software, which includes instrument control, data processing and interface to a computer.
