Green Laser for Micromachining
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 31, 2009 – A new pulsed green laser from Coherent Inc. delivers high performance for cost-sensitive processes that require only moderate output power. The Avia 532-23 is a Q switched, frequency-doubled, diode-pumped solid-state laser that offers 23 W of average power at 532 nm. With a repetition rate of up to 300 kHz, it delivers a combination of high-throughput and low cost of ownership for applications such as P2 and P3 patterning of thin-film solar cells, micromachining of Micro SD card packages, microelectronics package singulation and silicon via drilling.

Coherent-Avia532-23.jpgThe laser extends the Avia platform to medium power levels while still offering the reliability and advanced feature set found in more powerful Avia lasers, including PermAlign solder-bonding technology for drift-free mounting of all resonator optics, and long-life AAA (aluminum-free active area) pump laser diodes. It also incorporates PulseEQ to deliver constant pulse energy over time, even with varying repetition rates, ThermEQ to guarantee uniform pulse energy when the laser is operated in burst mode, and PulseTrack for pulse energy control on the fly. These features regulate the energy delivered to the work surface without causing any change to other beam parameters, thus enhancing process consistency and flexibility. The laser includes a smart power supply with an RS-232 interface.

TEM00 beam quality is M2 <1.3. Nominal repetition rate is 100 kHz, beam optimization is 100 kHz, pulse repetition rate is single-shot up to 300 kHz, pulse-to-pulse energy stability is <3% rms at 100 kHz, average power stability is <2% rms over 8 h, and full-angle beam divergence is <0.4 mrad. Beam pointing drift is <25 µrad/°C, beam circularity is >85%, and warm-up time from standby mode is <15 min and, from cold start, <40 min. Operating temperature ranges from 10 to 30 °C. The laser is RoHS-compliant.
